What is Down the Hole Drilling?

 DTH drilling rig uses compressed air as power to complete all rock drilling operations. It is mainly suitable for open pit mining, construction of foundation excavation, water conservancy, power station, transportation, and other engineering projects, as well as for drilling rock and blast holes. DTH drilling machine is mainly used for rock drilling in open-pit mining, construction foundation excavation, water conservancy, power station, building materials, transportation, and national defense construction, and other projects. It can also drill special-purpose rock holes such as anchor holes, geological pressure measuring holes, and drainage holes.

What are the advantages of DTH drilling rig:

DTH drilling rig can drill holes in rocks of medium-hard or above (f8). Like the rock drill, it has the process of rock drilling and hole formation of impact, rotation, slag discharge, and advancement. The difference is the impact mechanism of the DTH drilling machine-the impactor is installed at the front end of the drill pipe, submerged into the bottom of the hole, and then drilled. The extension and continuous advancement. Down the hole drilling is named after the impactor dives into the hole. It has the following advantages in use:

1. There is no energy transmission loss, the impactor directly acts on the drill bit, the no-drill rod is needed to transmit impact energy, and the drilling speed is not affected by the depth of the hole.

2. The hole is straight, the drill pipe has high rigidity, does not bear impact force, only transmits torque, and the transmitted shaft pressure is very small. During decompression drilling, there is no need to transmit shaft pressure at all, so the drill pipe is not easy to bend and deform. The blasthole is straight and smooth, especially when there are cracks in the rock, the bevel is inclined or the rock hardness changes, it is better than other drilling methods.

3. The slag discharge is clean, and the motive medium can flush the blast hole after working, which is cleaner than other drilling methods and avoids over-drilling.

4. The noise is small because the impact is carried out at the bottom of the hole, it is less noisy than the top hammer.

5. Good adaptability, except for very soft formations, Down the hole drilling is in the best working condition in all rock tissues, and the drilled hole diameter and hole depth are more than top hammer rock drills.

The various uses of Down the hole drilling under normal conditions are:

Used for roadbed, dam foundation, retaining wall reinforcement, slope treatment, foundation treatment and reinforcement, and deep foundation pit treatment of various industrial and civil buildings;

It can be used to prevent disasters such as landslides and tunnel rock collapse;

Widely used in mining, water conservancy, power station, road construction, field, and level stone engineering blast hole drilling and pile foundation hole perforation work.

If it is used in potentially dangerous environments, such as oxygen-deficient plateaus, flammable and explosive environments, or areas containing asbestos dust, special safety regulations must be followed, and appropriate devices must be equipped for Down hole drilling.
