Road roller rolling method: what are the precautions?

Road rollers, also called road compactors, are a kind of road construction machinery that can often be seen. Its working principle is mainly to use its own gravity to plastically strengthen the compaction of those sandy, semi-clay soil or asphalt concrete pavements.

Principles of roller rollers:

1. The compaction of the pavement should start from the edges on both sides of the road and gradually move to the center of the road. The rolling belt during the two rolling before and after rolling should have a fixed overlap width. The overlap width of the tandem roller and the single-wheel vibratory roller is 250-300mm, and the overlap width of the static three-wheel roller can be half of the main road roller.

2. The roller should be rolled as close as possible to the paver, and the method of applying light first and then heavy should be adopted to ensure that the compactness requirement is reached before the mixture is cooled to below the required low temperature.

3. Pay attention to the temperature when rolling. Petroleum asphalt is between 80150℃ (residual asphalt is 90110℃, if the rolling temperature is too high, the material will be squeezed in front of the roller, and it will expand along the edge of the roller to produce transverse cracks and adhere to the roller. When the rolling temperature is too low, the viscosity of the asphalt becomes high and it is difficult to compact, and cracks will appear on the rolled road.

4. When rolling the new asphalt mixture, the operator should first drive the driving wheel into the fresh mixture yard to reduce ripples and breakage. Keep the rolling speed constant, do not stop arbitrarily on the hot material surface; turn or start slowly, so as to minimize the indentation.

Problems that need to be paid attention to when the road roller machine is rolling

1. When compacting loose materials, you should go through 1 to 2 times of static pressure before vibrating rolling.

2. When working on a ramp, the speed should be as low as possible, and driving on a cross slope greater than 20% is prohibited.

3. Use a low speed when working on the road roller. When working, pay attention to whether there are people or obstacles on the front, back, left, or right.

4. Pay attention to the formation and separation distance (3-5 meters front and rear, 0.5-1 meters left and right) when multiple rollers work together, and low speed (0-7km/h) when driving on slopes to prevent inertial landslides and crushing. Rolling must be carried out in accordance with the rolling process specified by the construction personnel during the rolling. No leakage during rolling, no change of the rolling speed, and no stopping at will.
